Items of Interest from NSW Aborigines Welfare Board's Magazine "Dawn"

Published from 1952 to 1975, Dawn was the assimilationist propaganda magazine produced by the NSW Aborigines Protection Board (later the Aborigines Welfare Board). It has been described as 'a patronising journal...it echoed 86 years of APB-AWB paternalism.'

It was distributed to all NSW Aboriginal Stations and Reserves, where it was avidly read by Aboriginal people starved of information about their friends and kin. Some 50 years later its pages make fascinating reading as we illustrate with the following index of items of indigenous history found in Dawn.
