Council slams ACC inquiryNorthern Territory News - 6th March, 2009Author: -- Nick Calacouras
THE Northern Land Council yesterday slammed calls to continue the Australian Crime Commissions investigation into pedophile rings in remote communities.
Chief executive Kim Hill (pictured) said there was still no evidence to support the claims by former Indigenous Affairs Minister Mal Brough that pedophile rings were being run by powerful indigenous men in the Territory.
``I cannot see any factual evidence base supporting the work that the ACC has done,'' he said.
``Where are the arrests? Where are the outcomes?''
Mr Hill attacked indigenous leaders Warren Mundine and Marcia Langton who recently called for the federal investigation to continue.
``It's very disappointing to see indigenous leaders perpetuating the myth that indigenous people are overwhelmingly criminal in nature,'' he said.
