Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Amanda Vanstone has
announced the make-up of the 14 person appointed council to replace
ATSIC, the National Indigenous Council (NIC).
The NIC will
meet four times a year.
Its members are:
* West Australian magistrate,Sue Gordon (Chair of the NIC)
* ALP junior vice president, Warren Mundine
* Sydney Swans AFL player, Adam Goodes
* Founding member of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation,
South Australian Dr Archie Barton
* Brisbane-based Indigenous lawyer, Tammy Williams
* Dr John Moriarty, Sydney-based businessmen
* Chairwoman of the NT Aboriginal Benefits Account advisory
committee, Miriam Rose Baumann
* Torres Strait Islander Joseph Elu, chairman of the
Indigenous Business Australia
* Dr Sally Goold, Executive Director of the Congress of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander nurses, based in Queensland
* West Australian Joe Proctor, CEO of Indigenous Capital
Limited
* Michael White, regional chair for ATSIC Central
Queensland regional council
* Professor Mary Ann Bin-Sallik, Dean of Indigenous
Research and Education at Charles Darwin University in the Northern
Territory
* Northern Territory's Robert Lee, CEO of Jawoyn
Association
* Wesley Aird, from Queensland, a member of the Eastern
Yugambeh native title group
The NIC will have its first meeting early in December.
